Excellent Adventure 3 "Look for Elvis"

10th Annual Elvis Fest
Costa Mesa, CA and
Balboa Island Auto Ferry
Newport Beach, CA

It's another beautiful California Sunday...
and we are again looking for adventure...

We heard there was an "Elvis" deal in Costa Mesa...

and (being huge Elvis fans)... it was a no-brainer...

There's a big dispute over whether or not
the "King" is really dead...

For the record: Rocco claims to have seen Elvis recently at a Super K-Mart in Rancho Cucamonga and I swear I saw him last December on the strip in Las Vegas (maybe it was just the tequila talking).

Regardless... we were out for truth...
"Is Elvis still with us?" Maybe so...
and we headed for Costa Mesa...

North on Pacific Coast Highway...

Through Laguna Beach...

Varrrrrooom-m-m-m-... room-room-room....

Through beautiful Carona Del Mar...

and we weren't alone...

"Cool bike, dude.." "Yeah, you too... cool sidecar..."

and into Newport Beach...

" Which way to Costa Mesa...? "

" Right... Left...? "

Finally, we arrived at the OC Marketplace...

And... the 10th Annual Elvis Fest...

Chances were good... we'd find
the real Elvis here somewhere !

Right off the bat... we caught Elvis #1...
(an obvious impersonator)...

Then we saw Elvis 2... Could it be? Naw....

Suddenly... there were Elvis's everywhere...

"Cool" Elvis 18 sings... Rocco with "Near" Elvis 9...

"Sorta" Elvis 22 poses with "Near" Elvis 9
while Elvis "Lite" 43 (rear) is seen "sexting" a fan

Elvis 11 (in jacket made of upholstery fabric)
poses with "Religious" Elvis 3 (wearing a cape)

"Goodyear" Elvis 13 sings with "Tall" Elvis 37...

"Dog" Elvis thinks it over while Elvis #1 sings
"Love Me Tender"...

Dog hears: "Love Those Tenders"

We then discovered the impossible-to-resist
"DUNK ELVIS" booth... "Three balls please..."

"Go ahead and try it chump!" (A very bold Elvis)...

"Oh yeah? Hang on to your blue suede shoes..."

"BAM" bullseye... and S-P-L-A-S-H !!

A very "Wet" Elvis re-surfaces...

" I'll take this one... thank you."

Back to our search for the "real" Elvis...

"Bubba" Elvis... Rocco Elvis... and "Don Ho" Elvis...

There's "Fabio" Elvis...

and (gasp)... Could it be ??!!
"Is that the
real Elvis there in the crowd ?!!!"
Nope
...

There was "Old" Elvis....

and "Young" Elvis...

and "Senior Citizen" Elvis belted out
some (what else?) 1950's golden oldies...

One of our personal favorites was a guy we call:
"Homeless" Elvis (with all his belongings in tow)...

Sequins, rhinestones and plunging necklines
were everywhere... some on women too!

"Hey...ex-cuuuuse me... I thought it was
Elvis
Costello Day... gimme a break !"

And last (but not least)... yes:
"You Ain't Nuthin' But a Hound Dog"

Finally...
"Elvis has left the building"
...
Us too...

After which... we were pretty much convinced...
"Elvis has left the planet" as well...

With that thought in mind...
we saddled-up and headed for home...

On the way, we decided to take the Auto Ferry
across Newport Bay to Balboa Island...
then on to Pacific Coast Highway and home.

Passing 21st Street Beach and Newport Pier...

One of the disadvantages of riding in the sidecar...

is you are sitting so low...
that it often blocks your view
(heh-heh)... sorta.

Pulling into the waiting line to board the Auto Ferry...
a friendly family from New Mexico took our picture.

We also snapped pics of the family in line behind us
who were vacationing in California from Las Vegas...

They were taking our picture too...

Soon... the Las Vegas clan was on board
the Harley and sidecar... having much fun...

Now... on the serious side...
along with being the official "navigator" for our
adventures... goes a great deal of responsibility...

It's safety first... and (like the sign says)
I must always "watch for pedestrians"...

"Pedestrian... three o'clock."

" There's another one..."

" Oops... make that two pedestrians..."

" Hi girls "... Rule one: Always be friendly...

Maybe a bit too friendly? (click) " Yikes..."

"Okay... friendly is a good thing."

Finally... "Our ship has come in"... literally.

and the Auto Ferry is ready for boarding...

"Okay... who's humming the
'Gilligan's Island' theme ?"

Our "captain" is about 12-years old...

and we appear to be lost at sea...

At last, (and days later) we arrive on
the famed shores of Balboa Island...

After a quick ride across the island
through it's quaint downtown area...

it's across the bridge to the mainland...

and back to Pacific Coast Highway...

More: Varrrrrooom-m-m-m-...room-room-room....

And so ends our unsuccessful "Search for Elvis"...
and yet another... Excellent Adventure – Number 3...

Enough Elvis already...

It felt good to be back home...

and to our "everyday" lives...

"Stay tuned... more soon"
